Rob Thornburg
Captain
Captain Rob Thornburg began his career with the North Wilkesboro Police Department in 1995. While on patrol, Thornburg attended numerous classes at the North Carolina Justice Academy and local community colleges. Through his specialized training Thornburg earned his Advanced certificate. The Advanced certificate is the highest law enforcement certification offered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
While assigned to the patrol division he served on the STAR Team (Special Tactical and Response) with a specialization in sniper training. Thornburg has served as an advisor for The Junior Police program and One on One program. At one time he served as the Crime Prevention Officer; attending crime fairs, Community Watch meetings, career day at the local schools, speaking to small community groups about combating fraud, and serving on local nonprofit organization boards.
Thornburg was promoted to Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) in 2011. During his time as an Investigator he attended the Criminal Investigators Certificate Program (CICP) at the North Carolina Justice Academy. Thornburg has also completed the Leadership Management program at Central Piedmont Community College.
In 2016, Thornburg was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in CID. On November 1st, 2018 Thornburg was promoted to the rank of Captain in CID. As Commander of the Criminal Investigation Division he oversees the general investigators, narcotics unit, and Information Technology Division.
Thornburg is originally from the Charlotte area and attended Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Mitchell Community College. Thornburg has stated I am proud to now call North Wilkesboro my home and raise my family here.
