James “Buster” Cockerham
Patrol Officer II
Officer Cockerham started working in law enforcement as a part-time officer for the North Wilkesboro Police Department in May of 1971. Then in 1977 he started full-time with the Wilkesboro Police Department. After a few years Officer Cockerham left Wilkesboro Police Department and went to work for the Lenoir Police Department. In 1980 Cockerham went to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles, working at a weight station in Charlotte. From 1991 to 1999 he worked for the Wilkes County Sheriff Office. Officer Cockerham then left the field of law enforcement and opened his own business. But, in 2006 he came back to NWPD as a full time officer. Buster stated he, “came back to the work I like best, law enforcement.''
